Solomon Islands acknowledge China’s assistance towards its effort to combat COVID-19 in the country and humanitarian assistance for TC Harold. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele receive a cheque from the representative of the Chinese Embassy in Honiara on Wednesday 15th April 2020.
Speaking during the occasion, Minister Manele stated, “like China, we do have one overriding concern – that is the current Corona Virus Pandemic. It is our hope that the pandemic settles quickly because that is the only thing that can delay the completion of the facilities on time”.
Hon. Manele also received two cheques from the Chinese government. An amount of USD$300,000 was given to support Solomon Islands government to combat the corona virus (COVID-19) and a sum of USD$100,000 from the China Red Cross to help with the rehabilitation efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Harold.
Minister Manele acknowledge the PRC’s government for their continuous support to Solomon Islands and further expresses gratitude towards their prompt response through relief funds towards the COVID-19 and Tropical Cyclone Harold. While noting that the pandemic slowed down some works, Solomon Islands was pleased with the assurance provided by PRC that this will not affect the implementation of the project.
The event was witnessed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, Chargé d'affaires Yao Ming, Secretary to Prime Minister, Dr. Jimmy Rodgers, Senior Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, other senior government officials and members of the press.
