The Acting High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji, Mr. Ellison Mason had a zoom courtesy call with the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Mr Henry Puna on Wednesday 8th September 2021.
At the meeting, the Secretary General thanked the Solomon Islands government for its support. He assured that he will work closely with the government and the High Commission on issues to advance common regional issues to enhance partnership with all members to strengthen national effort.
In response, the Acting High Commissioner congratulated the Secretary General and reaffirm Solomon Islands continued support to the Pacific Islands Forum.
Both the Secretary General and the Acting High Commissioner discuss challenges of the covid-19 as well as recovery measures taken by members countries to rebuild their economies that have devastated by the pandemic. The Acting High Commissioner appreciate the work carried out by the Pacific Humanitarian Pathway on Covid-19 (PHP-C) along with the support of the CROP Agencies in providing technical assistance to member countries.
The Secretary General further shared views on critical issues such as the Climate Change and oceans and stressed the importance of working together in the preparation towards the COP26.
The call on the Solomon High Commision is part of the Secretary General’s introductory courtesy calls on all the Head of Missions based in Suva. Mr. Henry Puna is the 10th Secretary of the Pacific Islands Forum and is the Former Prime Minister of the Cook Islands.
