The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele hosted a farewell reception for the outgoing People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Li Ming on Friday night.

Minister Manele acknowledged Li Ming for becoming China’s first Ambassador to Solomon Islands, and for building an excellent relation between Solomon Islands and China since both countries establish diplomatic relations in 2019.

He said China remains Solomon Islands largest trading partner and under Li Ming’s term in office, China is also one of Solomon Islands largest infrastructure partner.

“Our partnership has brought the best of our friendship, tested by the pandemic, it has grown from strength to strength, proud to say we have come out with flying colours, delivering on game changing projects,” Minister Manele stated.

Foreign Minister Manele acknowledged the sacrifice and contributions that his excellency, Li Ming has made to the country despite a challenging four years and is pleased to note that Solomon Islands now enjoys a comprehensive strategic partnership with China established during the Prime Minister’s July visit to Beijing.

As a show of appreciation to the outgoing Ambassador, Minister Manele presented a gift to Ambassador Li Ming. Senior Government Ministers who attended the event also presented gifts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade staff also presented farewell songs to the Ambassador who left the country on Saturday 9th September 2023.

Ambassador Li Ming acknowledged the relationship between both governments which he feels proud to be part of. He said the story of China and Solomon Islands relations will continue for generations.
