Solomon Islands has been elected to serve on the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for the term 2025 – 2027.

On April 9th, 2024, during the Economic and Social Council’s 12th plenary meeting, Solomon Islands, India and Tajikistan were elected by acclamation to fill in the 3 Asia-Pacific regional seats to be vacated by the end of 2024.

Solomon Islands expresses its profound gratitude to the Asia-Pacific Group for the endorsement and the United Nations Member States for the collaborative effort in securing this opportunity for Solomon Islands to engage meaningfully and be part of the Executive Board.

The Executive Board is consisted of 36 countries from the five UN regional groups that oversees and supports the activities of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS, ensuring that the organizations remain responsive to the evolving needs of programme countries.

This is the first time; Solomon Islands has been elected to the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS. With the active presence of agencies in Solomon Islands and the region, this presents an opportunity to contribute and continue the deep commitment to partnership and collaboration with fellow board members, UN agencies, and other stakeholders to drive positive and impactful change in the delivery of work of these agencies in the region and globally.

Solomon Islands membership for the 3-year term will begin on 1st January 2025 and expiring on 31st December 2027. The Permanent Mission of Solomon Islands to the United Nations, will serve to fulfill duties in the Executive Board during the tenure of our membership.
